The entire Back40 web department and Outlook team packed up the office and hit the road to H&H Shooting Sports in Oklahoma City for a team building adventure (with one account executive getting pulled over with a warning).
Fun Fact: The majority of Back40ers own guns (maybe not a fun fact).
Each of us prepared a little bit differently for the morning at the range ─ watching YouTube Gun Safety Videos, searching what gun Rick Grimes uses, playing Call of Duty, one person cheated and even took a gun safety course. We paired the novices up with the pros, donned our eye and ear protection and opened fire. We were a well-armed design team – from Glocks to Ruger revolvers; from Heckler & Koch to Colt 1911s. From 357s to .22s we blasted paper targets and one flourecent light to smitherines.
Matt Flick, Back40 Marksman
What’s team building without a little friendly competition. Toward the end of our range time, each Back40er was handed a 12″ target with instructions to take their best 5 shots at 10 yards. The winner? Graphic designer Matt Flick took top honors with a 46 out of a possible 50.
With the barrage of gun fire subsiding and the cloud of somewhat toxic lead dust settling – we packed up and headed North to our office (with one developer getting pulled over AND ticketed). Over a variety of Hideaway pizzas we reviewed our shredded targets and bragged (lied) about out marksmanship.
Then we got busy building websites and our monthly magazine.
